and a train of scrap at Maespoeth......

...... waiting to be moved to the P.W. Dump.

Start of the Working Party Weekend of 16th/17th November 2002. A job left unattended whilst more pressing matters kept us busy during 2002 - the slate wall at the site of the garages at Maes-y-Llan. 16/11/02.

Going up !! Notice that the wall was only a foot or so high at the start of the weekend. Roger Holder and Keith Davis seen here marking out the levels etc. 16/11/02

A good turnout and fine weather assured us of a fair result of the weekend's efforts. 16/11/02

Teamwork - Everyone gets in on the act and, as you can see, the wall keeps getting higher and higher. 16/11/02

Everyone was kept busy picking and moving slate over to the site from just over the other side of the fence line. 16/11/02

While the working party headed off to Maes-y-Llan for day two, Adrian Britchford stayed behind for an hour and painted the piers on which the shed road now stands. 17/11/02

How did we keep going during the two days ? The tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes were kept flowing by Jill Oxford. Carriage 20 took on the role of buffet car for the weekend. 17/11/02

Coming to the end of the days work on Sunday and thoughts turned to leaving the site safe and tidy. 17/11/02

The final scraps of mortar and concrete infill are used up and the site made good prior to the return to Maespoeth. Also, as you can see here most of the slate has been cleared from the other side of the fence. 17/11/02

Stan Stockton puts in the remaining fence post to secure the boundary from wandering sheep. 17/11/02

This was our greeting on the morning of Sunday 27th October. During violent storms during the night a tree trunk came across the main road and narrowly missed the engine shed at Maespoeth. 27/10/02 (Photograph courtesy of Alex Hume) While passenger trains ran on Saturday 26th, work continued on the preparation of the point rodding at the site of the signal box at Maespoeth. (Stan Stockton and Mike Trowman providing the labour on this occasion). 26/10/02
The primary project for the weekend was the complete lifting and upgrading of the shed road within the Engine Shed at Maespoeth.. 26/10/02 David Coleman and Frank Walker drilling holes in the rail to accept tie-rods to maintain the 2' 3" gauge. 28/10/02
Steve Wheeler cuts a length of rail to size. 28/10/02 Here you can see how the piers have been fixed to the concrete floor to prevent sideways movement and the rail then welded to them 28/10/02
Richard Greenhough can be seen here filling in the gap between rail and existing concrete.  29/10/02 Chairman David Coleman and Malcolm Betts kept the concrete flowing - despite the conditions. 29/10/02
