0501
Monday, 28.12.09. Didn't they do well? Yesterday Dave Price and Trefor have turned No. 7 into an 0-4-0...

0502
...with trailing truck following behind...

0503
...the ashpan....

0505
...and the spark arrestor all removed...

0506
...together with the trailing truck side control assembly and slide pads, and brake weigh-shaft...

0508
...and safety valve assembly all in one day!

0509
But then, with a spanner that size, nothing is going to resist movement for long!

0517
Wednesday, 30.12.09. Paul Bailey ponders which rail to bend next...

0519
...and then matches them up for a re-adjusted turnout being regauged ready to finish off the yard arrangements at Maespoeth.

This morning (Tuesday 15th) we ran a special train for the Steam Railway team undertaking the "Great Big Welsh Grice" - an attempt to ride on all 13 Welsh narrow-gauge railways in 51 hours (spread over three days). We were their first port of call today and we ran them from Maespoeth to Corris and back, starting at 08:00, before waving them off on their way to Llanfair Caereinion.
The SR team travelled in Ivo Peters' 1951 Bentley Mark VI (now owned and driven by Julian Birley), which posed for photos with the train at Corris.

A feature of the weekend was a horse-drawn display at Maespoeth.

009
The locomotive was suitably "decked out"...

012
...but while the passenger operations continued so did the preparation for getting the carriage shed linked up to Maespoeth Yard in time for May 9th...

015
...with may volunteers just getting on with it...

018
...with "heads down". Here Richard Shipman takes time out to straighten his back.

022
The view from the South is certainly impressive...

026
...and even the locomotive crew join in in between services. (Driver Trefor Davies in overalls).

028
There are many rails and plates to be drilled - here Adrian attends to a fixing plate.

032
Alf & Jill Oxford make a flying visit to see the progress at first hand.

033
Now this is a sight not seen on the Corris Railway for many, many years! Now where is the rhubarb?

4444
...and the 1 in 8 turnout has been shortened as part of its re-gauging.

4453
Wednesday, 8.4.09. Hand shunting is in progress by Trefor and Andrew to give them a flying run at...

4454
...the new ski jump!

4460
Thursday, 9.4.09. The Tuesday gang arrive on the wrong day to work on the Carriage Shed approach turnout, while the Aber gang have one rail of the turnout ready to be connected.

4467
By evening, the turnout has been re-gauged and connected up, so...

4469
...attention turns to laying in the carriage shed headshunt siding (assisted by Mike Floate and Trefor).

4471
Which road into the Carriage Shed?

4473
Good Friday, 10.4.09. The south platform road is unusually empty...

4474
...and No. 5 waits to deliver heritage waggons into the Carriage Shed.

4476
The mini excavator stands ready to load tippers and the crane waggon has been delivered to the Carriage Shed headshunt for storage.

4479
Richard paints more of the shed floor...

4482
Richard tops Maespoeth bank with No. 5 and a tipper loaded with ballast - a view sure to be popular with photographers in years to come!

4484
Track lightly spiked, the heritage waggons are dropped towards the Carriage Shed.

4488
A visitor photographs the service train...

4489

4494
Richard Foyn drives No. 7 to disposal...

4496
...while No. 6 shunts the lower yard and No. 5 brings a further load of ballast up to the south platform road.

4498
Saturday, 11.4.09. The horse operated demonstration freight train attracts interest (and traffic)!

4500

4508
Mike gets pulled away in readiness for the next train load of passengers.

4511
The horse box certainly looks the part!

4518
Towards evening, the horse waits patiently as No. 7 and passenger train is "crossed" by No. 6 on a train of heritage stock.

4526
A horse hauled special works up the line...

4531
...so that Andrew Kennedy can video its passage...

4538
...and then record it walking back while he takes a gravity run!

4547
Finishing touches are applied to the turnout while the passenger train is run down the main line...

4551
...before being propelled carefully and under close supervision...

4554
...into the Carriage Shed for the first time...

4558
...which certainly got heads scratching!

4564
The miniature carriage shed has also progressed!

4565
The horse looks the part in the field (by kind permission of Mrs Lloyd).

4566
Sunday, 11.4.09. What a magnificent weekend!

4567
Passengers wander down the platform to examine progress...

4568
...as Richard paints the pit floor.

4571
The turnout to the Carriage Shed receives more attention and has been partly ballasted.

4580

4608
Frank's van has become a travelling advert for the railway...

4610
...which Trefor is anxious to tell his friends about as Mike coals No. 7.

4613
After a successful weekend, Richard and Adrian muse on progress...

4618
...before a gravity run of waggons coasts into the Carriage Shed for storage...

4623

4630
...where they joined the other waggons.

4631

4407

4415

4417
Dave and Trefor take a break while waiting for pressure to build...

4418

Trefor and Dave Price are thinking of buying a traction engine(?)

002
No. 5 can be hard to start on a damp day - Richard has a go.

006
Trefor gets it going – but it fades away.

008
Finally Dave Price gets it going.

010
Fully operational!

014
The waggon neatly stacked with blocks on the Upper Corris - A nice ensemble.

018
Trefor of course is underneath fixing the brakes - with advice from Dave.

020
This mixed gauge panel must be moved to allow access by the dumper to move the fill for the new south platform.

025
Easily done!

027
The edging for the new south platform is proceeding well.

028
The ‘blow down hole’ in the middle road is being renovated. The ballast will be covered with a membrane and then with concrete.

Rolling stock has been moved off the Brynllwyd Headshunt to make space for the re-grading of the haul road, providing a rare opportunity to see this section of line.

How soon can we lay these rails to provide access into the new shed ?

Tuesday, 20.1.09. The first load of concrete arrives for the pit floor screed, together with a tester. Mind the pit!

The lorry has gone, and Andrew and Steve screed it off, with Derek looking on, ready to scrape back any surplus.

The main floor is screeded, Steve finishes around the edges...

3710
...and then everybody waits for the next lorry...

The extreme south end floor is finished off...

3736
...and the surplus has gone into the platform retaining wall foundation and filled up the pots in the completed wall.
