"Hugh Goes Sliding" by Christopher Awdry, illustrated by Jonathan Clay.

The Corris Railway Society's President, Christopher Awdry, has written a story based on a real-life incident in the railway's past. Illustrated by the well-known railway artist Jonathan Clay, the book, "Hugh Goes Sliding", has been published by the Society, and all proceeds go towards its work of restoring a section of the railway.

The genesis for the book came at the Society's annual Model Railway Exhibition, held in Machynlleth over the August Bank Holiday weekend, when Christopher Awdry asked the Society's officers for some tales about the railway that would make a good basis for a story. Jonathan Clay was exhibiting at the Show, and was quickly enthused by the idea, and duly signed up as illustrator.

The result is a book featuring scenes at Aberllefenni, Corris, Maespoeth, Ffridd Gate, and elsewhere on the railway, and starring the railway's original steam locos - No.3 (built by Hughes Locomotive & Tramway Engine Works Ltd in 1878) and No.4 (built by Kerr Stuart & Co. Ltd in 1921). No.3 is the "Hugh" of the title, and No.4 appears as "Kerr".

The book retails at £4.95, and copies can be obtained from the Corris Railway Museum, or from the Society's Postal Sales Officer, John Knight, at 40 Fladgate Road, Leytonstone, London, E11 1LY.
