Tattoo Locomotive (No. 7) |
The Corris Railway's new-build "Tattoo" class steam locomotive has passed its boiler test and will soon be moving from the construction works for painting and lining-out. Current expectations are that it will be delivered to Corris in early May, after which it will undergo running trials before being approved to operate passenger trains.
The loco's design is based on the last new locomotive to be built for the railway, which was delivered in 1921 and is now Talyllyn Railway No.4 "Edward Thomas". It is possible that this is not only the first new steam locomotive to be built for the Corris Railway in eighty-four years, but also the first all-new steam locomotive to be built in the U.K. for the 2'3" gauge in the same time period.
