Corris Railway begins tracklaying as Maespoeth carriage shed approaches completion. |
After two years of concentrated efforts in fundraising and construction of the new carriage shed at Maespoeth Junction the volunteers of the Corris Railway are turning their attention to track laying and the remodelling of the layout of lines in Maespoeth Yard.
“With the carriage shed approaching completion we now have to turn our attention to installing the rails to enable our stock being able to gain access to it” said Corris Railway Society Chairman David Coleman, “and we have acquired most of the necessary track now. However the gauge of the acquisition is two foot six inches and will need to be regauged to our two foot three before it is laid in place. This will be a challenge in the case of the turnouts that are a key part of the plan and if there are any experienced permanent way workers, both general labourers and skilled technicians who would like to volunteer to assist, we will be pleased to welcome them to our workforce. In addition to the long term need to have our wooden bodied rolling stock under cover, completing the new layout at Maespoeth is a key ingredient in preparing for our planned programme of special events in 2009 to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Corris Railway.”
