An evening of entertaining poetry and music will be served up on the evening of Saturday August 1st at the Corris Institute in the village of the same name, near Machynlleth.

The featured acts on the night are Les Barker and Graham Larkbey. Both have been working their particular magic since the later 1970’s, originally in folk clubs and subsequently at festivals, concert halls and other locations where a good night out is the order of the day.

Originally from Manchester Les is now resident in Wrexham, having survived an on-line petition by hi fans to have him made Poet Laureate earlier this year. Quite what he would have made of Royal Events and Ceremonial is a cause for thought: his existing works include the saga of Cosmo the Fairly Accurate Knife Thrower, problems caused by lost camouflage nets and Dan Dare’s career on the Manchester buses.

Graham Larkbey now resides in Walthamstow and is an unpredictable performer, pounding a low-slung guitar and launching forth with a wide variety of material. The majority of this is entertaining but he will change pace with ballad or a thoughtful piece of writing. Some of the songs re his own but there are also covers, some of which are very much unexpected.

Les and Graham are appearing at the Institute as part of the celebrations to mark the 150th Anniversary of the narrow gauge Corris Railway, closed in 1948 and now being restored to life.
