Corris Railway Model Railway and Toy Exhibition moves to new venue for August Bank Holiday weekend. |
This year’s Corris Railway Model Railway and Toy Exhibition is
taking place in a new venue following the unavailability of the Community Centre
in Machynlleth. Over the Bank Holiday Weekend, August 29th to 31st the MRTE will
be held in Corris School, immediately alongside the reopened section of the
narrow gauge line.
For fans of vintage models there are two particularly attractive layouts. Arthur
Thomas will be exhibiting a Hornby Dublo 3-Rail layout featuring stock from the
“golden age” between 1950 and 1965, whilst Hornby O Gauge Clockwork will feature
on another layout. In addition there will be static display featuring the Tri-ang
TT range. Another vintage models stand will feature Matchbox toy vehicles from
the 1969 to 71 period complete with track to run them on.
Narrow gauge layouts appropriately feature. Chwarel Back has a push button to
start the trains moving whilst “Chipped Lane” is a 7 mm model depicting a
fictious . line in North West England and “Nearleigh Works” is in the same scale
. Welsh standard gauge interest includes Aberafon, designed to show what a
beginner in the hobby can achieve utilising the range of products now on the
market and a 7 mm scale diorama based on significant structures and station
scenes based on the long-closed Aberystwyth to Carmarthen line. Overseas
railways feature on “Minden Remembered”
For children there are a couple of special attractions. A Christmas-themed
layout built using Playmobil equipment can be operated by the children
themselves whilst outside there will be a seven and a quarter inch miniature
line offering rides.
After a successful first appearance last year Catherine Packham will be
returning with her handcrafted stained glass items. The “Falcon” Loco Appeal
Stand will be looking to raise more funds towards the Corris’ next steam
locomotive and there will be various trade stands selling both new and pre-owned
rolling stock, engines, scenery, books etc. and other railway ephemera, plus a
demonstration of modelling techniques.
Visitors to the Exhibition will be able to obtain a 50p reduction on the cost of
a journey over the restored part of the Corris Railway whilst those who have had
their train ride first will be able to obtain a similar discount on admission to
the Exhibition. The Corris Railway Museum will also be open and with the
Talyllyn Railway close to hand plus the other narrow gauge railways in the area
visitors can make an enjoyable two or three day visit out of a trip to the MRTE.
