Corris Railway carries increased number of passengers in 2009. |
For the second year in a row the Corris Railway concluded its main operating season with an increase in the number of passengers carried. After seeing figures rise by 17% in 2008 the 2009 total rose by another 9% as more visitors were attracted to the revived section of the line between Corris and Maespoeth Junction.
Corris Railway Society David Coleman reflected on the Corris’ 150th Anniversary Year. “We have had a number of notable events in the ongoing history of the Railway including the horse drawn freight trains at Easter, the wonderful May Day when we opened the new carriage shed and successful family weekends that have attracted new visitors both to the line and the Dulas Valley. Some of our normal operational days have also seen us running completely full trains which further highlighted the importance of our carriage building work at Maespoeth and of the appeal to build our next steam locomotive. This has all been achieved by a small group of very dedicated volunteers and one of our targets for 2010 is to recruit more helpers to let us carry on building on our success story. We are looking for museum staff, people to work on engines, signallers, track workers and just general willing hands and more information can be obtained by e-mailing enquiries@corris.co.uk or by sending an s.a.e. to CRS, Brynderw, Aberllefenni, Machynlleth, SY20 9RR.
