BUSY WEEKEND OF SANTA TRAIN OPERATIONS COMPLETES CORRIS RAILWAY’s ANNIVERSARY YEAR.

The 150th Anniversary year of the Corris Railway ended on a highspot with a very busy weekend of Santa Train operation between Corris Station and Santa’s grotto at Maespoeth Junction.

“With the weather in our favour and good local publicity for the trains in advance we were hoping for a busy time”, said Corris Railway Society Chairman David Coleman, “but by the end of Saturday we had already carried more passengers than we did over the whole of the same weekend last year and were rather hastily shopping for more mulled wine ingredients and presents for younger children. Sunday was a bit quieter than the Saturday but still lively enough to keep our volunteers busy and also to create a nice family atmosphere. Part of the new carriage shed at Maespoeth was home to Santa for the weekend and he too agreed that the shed is a key part in our project to re-open a section of the old route and bring more business to the Dulas Valley in future years.”

David continued “Both the new shed and the original locomotive shed at Maespoeth will be busy over the next few months with engineering work to further improve our stock. On March 20th and 21st we are holding New Volunteers Days so that anyone interested in helping to rebuild or run the Railway or in helping out with sales and running the Museum at Corris can come along and see what is involved. Overall the Anniversary Year has been a great success but it has also highlighted the need for more willing hands so that we can maintain our progress.”
