TENDER ACCEPTED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF BOILER FOR NEW CORRIS RAILWAY STEAM LOCOMOTIVE |
The project to build the next steam engine for the revival of
the Corris Railway has taken another important step forward with the acceptance
of the tender from Israel Newton & Sons of Bradford for the construction of the
boiler and agreement by Graham Morris to make the necessary contacts regarding
insurance. In another important step forward David Potter has agreed to start
the work for patterns for the cylinder castings which will be made concurrently
with the boiler, and as a first step in a plan to produce a rolling chassis
alongside the boiler construction work.
The locomotive which will take the number 10 in the Corris’ fleet is a
recreation of one the “Falcon” 0-4-2 Saddle tank engines which brought steam
train services to the Dulas Valley in Mid Wales in 1878.
The Project Leader Peter Guest commented “The first part of building a new steam
locomotive always seems the slowest with the need for the preparation of the
many engineering drawings required but we are now reaching the metal cutting,
shaping and construction stages and we plan to press forward as quickly as
fund-raising will allow. In return those who are supporting us should be able to
see tangible results of their financial input taking physical shape. As with all
groups building new locomotives all support is most welcome and those who would
like to learn more can do so by contacting me via peterg@corris.co.uk or by
writing to 38 Underwood Close, Callow Hill, Redditch, B97 5YS.”
