Slate mining around Corris - The present reveals the past |
The Corris Railway Society is organising a weekend educational tour on 11th – 13th June 2010 to explore the old slate mines and social history of the area. Included will be:
• An underground conducted tour of Braich Goch slate mine. Walking boots are recommended
• A walk along Ratgoed Tramway site with commentary on the social history of the valley and its quarries
• A visit to Aberllefenni slate dressing sheds
• A trip on Corris Railway followed by a barbeque in the Carriage Shed
• Illustrated talks on the history of the area
The weekend will commence with dinner at Dwynant Pub, Ceinws on Friday evening. Lunch on Saturday and Sunday will also be provided.
The cost (excluding accommodation) will be £125. Places are strictly limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
