Free travel for children with favourite bear or circus animal at Corris Railway Family Weekend. |
Children who come to travel on the Corris Railway on Saturday July 31st and Sunday August 1st will be able to ride for free if they bring their teddy bear or favourite circus animal with them. The Railway is holding its Family Weekend and apart from the free travel there are plenty of other attractions planned.
The trains will be worked by the steam engine “Kerr” who appears in the book “Hugh Goes Sliding”, written especially for the Corris by the “Thomas the Tank Engine author Christopher Awdry. Copies of the book can be purchased on the day and visitors can find out how soon it will be before “Hugh” is back with “Kerr” on the line.
“Kerr” will also be in charge of the Circus Train which includes a very naughty gorilla who will try to escape if not carefully watched and really wants to be a train driver. When passengers arrive at Maespoeth there will be games for the children and also displays by jugglers who will be pleased to teach anyone interested some of the tricks of juggling with clubs and the diabolo.
Refreshments will be available and the Corris Railway Museum will be open. The first train leaves Corris at 11.00 a.m. on both days and the last departure is at 4.00 p.m.
Corris Railway Society David Coleman commented: “The children’s weekend is always one of the happiest during the year with lots of interest for the volunteers on duty being what is arriving by way of toy animals with the children. In the case of some of the circus animals the young owners are very knowledgeable about the real creatures and the teddy is always a popular passenger. Last year they came from as far away as Walthamstow and Lancashire. The jugglers first visited last year and proved popular so we are pleased to welcome them back
