Gift Aid

From time to time you will see references to “Gift Aid”. So why do we encourage you to make gift aid declarations in favour of the Society?

In short, if you pay tax in the UK and make a declaration, the Society can reclaim some of the tax you have already paid to HMRC. The amount is currently worth 25% of your subscription or donation. This can make a real difference to how quickly we can progress the various projects you read about on this website.

We can take into account most donations made in the last 4 years and into the future if we hold a declaration from you. There is no cost to you but you need to be aware that if you pay less tax than the amount we reclaim then under HMRC rules you are liable to pay the difference. 100 Club contributions and share purchases are ineligible.

Taking that into account it means that for every £10 we receive in membership subscriptions or donations we get another £2.50 from HMRC.

It is important to keep your declaration status under review if your financial circumstances change significantly. For example, the increases in personal tax allowances and the introduction of the £1000 tax free savings allowance may mean that some will have stopped being taxpayers.

If you prefer you can make a declaration for each individual contribution but it is generally simpler for both you and the Society to have an ongoing declaration in force.

If you are uncertain about whether you have made a gift aid declaration and want to check, or want to change what you have in force, or want to join the growing band of those who add that vital 25% enabling the Society to progress further and faster please contact giftaid@corris.co.uk for any help or assistance.
