Corris Railway’s New Volunteers Day |
As it looks to build on its successful 150th Anniversary Year in 2009 the Corris Railway is holding New Volunteers Days on March 20th and 21st 2010 to give potential helpers a chance to see what is involved in reviving and running a narrow gauge railway in Mid-Wales.
On the running side of the operation the Corris is looking to welcome new volunteers to learn about signalling, guarding and driving and firing trains. All new hands can expect to be trained and examined as they gain the necessary experience and as a bonus the present small number of activists offers good opportunities in this field.
As regards the reviving and maintaining of the line there are vacancies for all skill levels. Keen do-it-yourself fans who would like to extend their wood or metal working skills or their talents for wielding a paintbrush will find opportunities to help with coach and wagon maintenance and construction and keeping stations and buildings in good order. For gardeners or those who fancy some good cardio vascular exercise in the fresh air there is vegetation to be kept under control and track maintenance whilst any skilled or aspiring engineer will find plenty to do to maintain the line’s locomotives both steam, diesel and battery electric.
Fund raising is also crucial and more willing hands are needed to work at Corris Station, looking after the Museum, selling souvenirs, books, dvds etc and tickets plus hot and cold drinks and generally maintaining the Corris’ reputation for a friendly welcome to its passengers and visitors.
The New Volunteers Day will begin at Corris Station at 10.30
a.m. but potential new volunteers will be welcome to arrive up to 3.00 p.m. More
