2014 Photograph Archive

Photographs taken 2nd/3rd December 2014

Tuesday, 2.12.14. Wow! The car park at Maespoeth was full this morning – and two more cars arrived later!
Tubes were being put in No. 7’s boiler …
…with Trefor receiving them in the firebox, supervised by Gordon.

Meanwhile, Dave was trimming tubes to order to produce washers.
In the Carriage Shed, rolling stock was moved up to create space for the reception area for visitors to our bearded friend in a couple of week’s time …
…after one of the vestibule frames on No. 23 had been tacked up the previous weekend.

The picnic tables have been brought in for the winter (and the fire extinguishers have been inspected).
It’s a good job we have some handy builders on the railway!
A short train is prepared to collect Santa items stored in Corris.

One of Santa’s Cherubs breaks for a ‘paned. Have you ever seen such a clean face on Trefor after a morning’s work
After lunch, Gordon feeds another tube towards the firebox …
…before driving it home.

Dave cleans up the end of a tube to ease its passage through the firebox tube plate …
…before - with great trepidation - the last tube is threaded through.
A fine set of portraits of the workers, as the tubes get their final adjustments before expanding.

Dave has a fishing story to tell …
…and after a day’s work in the firebox, Trefor’s face is still pristine!
Elsewhere, No. 7’s buffer beam has been de-greased – spot the difference with nuts awaiting attention …

…and the sheet metal work in the Carriage Shed has been further cleaned ready for re-painting where necessary – but it still needs more cleaning …
…further excavation work has been carried out prior to building a new wall between Signal Box and the ballast loading bank …
…and the conundrum is sorted …

…to erect the gazebo’s as Santa’s reception area …
…and brought the pre-packed presents down for Santa to distribute.
Wednesday, 3.12.12. Dave and Trefor measure up for a new fusible plug …

…before Trefor re-starts expanding the firebox ends of the tubes.
Dave works on the gauge glass cocks to blank openings in the boiler ready for a hydraulic test in a fortnight.
The ratchet lever for the expander in position as Trefor takes a break.

Tuesday, 3.12.14. The railway retaining wall west of Tan y Coed has been repaired …
…which has resulted in the trackbed being cleared of vegetation.

Saturday, 7.12.2019. Trefor is happy to be steaming No. 7 in the Engine Shed ready for today's activities and visitors. Phil has just delivered a waggon wheelset recovered from ‘Ralltgoed some time ago (and removed some good pallets he had a use for). Meanwhile, Trefor has (with others) been working on No. 6 in the Engine Shed. Meanwhile, in the Engine Shed, Phil is cleaning out the suds reservoir of the lathe, so the lathe is again fully functional and serviced … Meanwhile in Corris, Stevie has erected the top to his lamp … Last minute preparations to greet visitors are being made as No. 7 draws forward before dropping back on to its train … In the evening, it is the Society’s Christmas Dinner, attended by a Special Guest! In Machynlleth, a banner advert for the weekend has been erected … All too soon, the last train arrives back at Maespoeth … … with the next moves agreed with Bob and Chris. While in contrast outside, Helen is spinning with delight! … which looks very atmospheric in the gloom.
