2015 Photograph Archive

Photograph taken between 9th & 15th December 2015

Wednesday, 9.12.15. Lez has arrived to build more of the wall in Maespoeth yard …
… and more materials are delivered for it ...
… it having grown by two courses during the day.

Meanwhile, Neil has called by to paint a little primer on the new woodwork on carriage No. 21, in case it rains at the weekend …
… when we are expecting a special visitor!
Thursday, 10.12.15. Lez returns to place more blocks …

… in a boiler suit acquired when the gas main was renewed through the valley!
Friday, 11.12.15. Patrick and Richard check out the air brakes on No. 11 after swapping it around …
… with No. 7.

Saturday, 12.12.15. No. 7 is steamed …
… on a very wet and dull day …
… such that resort was had to the air line to help draw the fire.

It should be cold enough for one of these! Helen has brought along Shackleton Jnr. from her school on a weekend trip out.
David and colleague spend the day with us, recording video and sound to help compile a train simulator game – but conditions are not good!
There is a good crowd on the first train to visit Santa ...

… where there are plenty of mince pies (and mulled wine) to go around!
All too soon, it is time to re-board the train …
… but it is so dull that the train lamps have to be lit.

Later, Trefor calls by, to drill holes in No. 11’s buffer beams to take the train communication system conduit and cabling, but the camera then succumbs to the damp!
Tuesday, 15.12.15. A line-up of fire extinguishers, all ready for their annual inspection.
Bob welds …

… point rodding stools …
… while a fair gang clear away in the Carriage Shed …
… which is largely completed just before lunch.

In the meantime, Chris has been catching up on his reading after making a first cut on the axlebox …
… and before long, has completed one complete cut on the first axlebox to be machined.
Afterwards, Bob checks Chris’ work after the two cuts had been completed …

…while he leaves the lathe to machine the faces on the third axlebox.
By late afternoon, Chris has started machining the second axlebox – at this rate, he will be waiting for Bob to turn the boxes!
Finally, Santa has been brought in to dry out after completing his work for this year.

… including the removal of the station sign board for refurbishment. … following up with a 3-carriage train to check brakes and other functions ... … followed by former TR Chief Engineer John Bate. … before Trefor and Patrick take No. 7 on a very quiet trial run to Corris … … before running round to leave the two Corris engines together. No. 3 was in light steam, while No. 4 was partially dismantled … … before Jack re-secures that one, with new retaining bolts both ends. Meanwhile, Phil is installing a modesty screen around the machine tool area. … before Jack on No. 3 leads the re-arranged formation back into the station. … before arriving in Corris. … and then showing us the recently restored and returned, ex-Corris carriage (T. R. No. 17) in their paint shop. … and returned prior to the formal re-enactment. … and crossing timbers renewed. … adjacent to a seasonal display.
