2015 Photograph Archive

Photographs taken between 25th & 28th July 2015

Saturday, 25.7.15. Graeme shows Neil Thompson around No. 11 as Trefor looks on …
… while Trainee Fireman Chris checks on hubby Adrian, working on the body frames of carriage No. 23 …
… by completing the welds.

Later in the day, having finished the welding, Ade grinds them flush.
In between trains, Graeme (Guard) and Trefor (Driver) dismantle some of the point rodding in Corris for re-use at Maespoeth …
… after Trefor has taken the opportunity to splash rusty WD 40 on to Graeme’s smart uniform inside the Engine Shed!

New volunteers Chris and Kath entrust Guard Graeme with goodies for the Museum, as Controller Alan Witts rounds up his newly arrived passengers.
Footplate crew Chris and Trefor enjoy their lunch …
… on a superbly sunny day!

Sunday, 26.7.15. What a contrast to yesterday! Persistent rain & drizzle, and No. 7 replaced by No. 6 at the last minute …
… with Trefor and Richard puzzling over why the brakes suddenly ceased to operate on No. 7 as they approached the carriages.
Meanwhile, in the Carriage Shed Kath cleans up plastic storage bins for further use, while Chris methodically primes all the newly ground welds on carriage No. 23.

Mr. Saffery has made his presence felt inside the Carriage Shed …
… and outside near the bonfire site!
Ian Cross also calls by with some superb cast “works” plates …

… soon installed on carriage No. 22 …
… just in time for Mr. Saffery to arrive in a blur with his lunch!
During all this time, Richard and Trefor have been working on No. 7’s brake problem …

… and Chris and Bill have been “manning” the Museum.
By evening, No. 7’s brakes have been reassembled, so it is taken up the line to check everything is in order – with very atmospheric effects!
Tuesday, 28.7.15. Richard has had time to think about the brake problem, so enlists the help of Bob in adjusting things …

… before taking the loco out with No. 6 to source a previously unheard clicking sound, where everybody in turn learnt the steps of the Maespoeth Shuffle. Yes, it had been raining!
Sheltering in the Carriage Shed, Charles re-fits the newly painted back support for carriage No. 22’s vestibule seat …
… while Neal assembles the seat laths – carefully!

By lunch time, the seat is almost complete …
… and is finished soon afterwards. Now to get the other seats in the carriage to the same degree of gloss!
Richard completes No. 7’s paper work as Trefor arrives …

… to carry out some routine maintenance work on No. 7’s trailing truck and regulator.

A view of the North platform in the evening light, Christmas now less than a handful of days away, with a new Welsh lockdown due at Midnight tonight this would be the last working day on the railway for a while. The rail bolster wagon sat in the South Platform road, with a bit of work this will be a good addition to the fleet. The first few wagons have reached the North platform, to be propelled back into the South platform to enable space to extract the other few rakes. The fairly poor condition of the CAT carriage here is very noticeable – the chassis seems to look OK. Saturday, 19.12.2020. Time for a grand shunt of the head-shunt at Maespoeth. With the ultimate aim of extracting the “CAT Carriage” for restoration to begin in 2021. Friday 25th December… NadoligLlawen-Happy Christmas, at Corris Station. Chris couples up the CAT wagon (which we had left outside the new wagon shelter mid shunt) in order to propel it towards the new shelter in the hope it would fit. “Doh!” – not quite. With the light failing, loco 6 sits at the head of the ‘serviceable’ works wagons ready to return them to their resting place in the siding. To enable the carriage to thoroughly dry out prior to sorting its contents and begin stripping work, it was dragged into the loco shed behind No.6 and fitted in with a couple of inches to spare. The wagon which until recently was used to store loco 10’s new boiler is next to be dragged out the undergrowth, along with four ex RNAD Trecwn wagons. The view up the siding from the cab of loco 6, the railhead by this point had become extremely greasy and sand needed to be found to gain adhesion.
