Falcon Build Images

Welcome to the web page keeping you up to date with progress on building the Falcon locomotive (No. 10).

Sunday, 18.12.22. The brake return spring fitted at the front of the loco. To have a one off item made was going to cost about £300, this off the shelf one will do the job for £30.

Tuesday, 20.12.22. This picture shows the valve to control the flow of water from the drivers side of the saddle tank to the injector. For initial steaming at the open day this could be controlled manually but now as one of the many "completion" jobs the linkage to the cab has been made.

Inside the cab the linkage seen connecting to the valve in the previous picture is the upper operating rod seen here.

Passing neatly through the front of the cab operating or reach rods are (left to right) reversing lever, water supply valve and cylinder drain cocks.

Monday, 2.1.23. A guide bracket has been made for the cylinder drain cocks operating rod.

Wednesday, 4.1.23. The rather more simple linkage for the Fireman's side saddle tank water supply valve disappearing inside the cab.

Thursday, 15.12.22. This laser cut ring with a radius on two corners will form the beading around the hole in the rear cab sheet

Tuesday, 3.1.23. The saddle tank handrails are another volunteer job. In this photo the bars have been turned down to size and a thread started. They are sitting on the bending jig made up for the job

After serious heating the ends were bent to shape

Monday, 9.1.23. Each end had M20 threads cut

Wednesday, 11.1.23. Finished handrails and cab beading

Ready for finish machining these will be dome headed bolts which are needed for the cab.
