Welsh Language television station S4C was on site at the Corris Railway on Monday March 23rd, filming an extended news item as the narrow gauge line began its preparations for its 150th Anniversary year.

“We got the call from S4C a week before they wanted to film us”, said Corris Railway Society Chairman David Coleman, “and as the day selected was a Monday there was fairly hectic ‘phoning around to get out volunteers to drive our steam engine number 7, guard the train and show the film crew around. Fortunately enough folk with the necessary qualifications were able to get time off from their day jobs to make the day possible and number 7 was still warm from the staff training weekend on March 21st and 22nd.” David himself is bi-lingual and was able to do the interviews and explain the significance of a local railway which began life as the Corris, Machynlleth and River Dovey Tramroad in 1859, was closed by British Railways in 1948 and is now being brought back to life by a small but highly dedicated team of restorationists.

“We will be running our first passenger services of the year over the Good Friday to Easter Monday Weekend”, said David, “and as an additional attraction on that weekend we will also be operating horse drawn demonstration goods trains to show an aspect of Corris Railway history which represents the first twenty years until the original steam engines arrived and which persisted on the Ratgoed Tramway into the 1950’s after the Corris Railway itself had closed. And passengers who travel this year will also find themselves being issued with a special commemorative railway ticket to mark the 150th Anniversary”.
